Spring is just around the corner – the temperatures are rising, the birds are chirping and we’re itching to change things up! It is the perfect time for an annual beauty makeover. Learn our easy tricks to refresh your beauty routine this spring. It’s time for a fresh start and a fresh look with our skincare, makeup and hair tips and tricks!
Now that the cold, dry days are behind and the days are getting warmer, get rid of dead skin with an exfoliating scrub Dermalogica Skin Prep Scrub (1). Old skin can make your face look dry and dull. Create a healthy glow by exfoliating your face once or twice per week.
Well hydrated skin is always in season. We love to pair M-61 Hydraboost Serum (2) and La Mer Protecting Fluid (3). Apply the serum after cleansing, so it can penetrate deep down in the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Seal in the serum with a moisturizer like La Mer’s that also protects your skin with SPF 50 from the springtime sunshine.
As the temperatures rise it’s important to find sweat proof makeup that won’t run. Use a primer like LUNE+ASTER’s realglow (4) before applying makeup to help it stay on longer. Pack away your full coverage foundations and replace them with sheer to medium coverage foundations like NARS’ Sheer Glow Foundation (5) for something more comfortable for the warmer weather.
Cream based makeup is a great update for your fresh spring look! It provides a lighter, dewier look. Try Bobbi Brown’s Pot Rouge (6) – it works great on both lips and cheeks. Couple with a coat of lip gloss for shine.
The easiest way to brighten your face this season is to swap out the dark pouts for a brilliant pop of color! Ditch the dark lips and try fun tints like cobalt or coral on your lips, liner or even mascara. A smoky eye is one of our favorite looks but the dark black can be too much for spring. Brighten it up with a lighter palette like stila’s Matte ‘n Metal Eyeshadow Palette (7). Nothing says spring more than bold hues!
Take a risk this season and chop your locks! The lob, a long bob, is always a fun way to change up your do! If you can’t commit to a full cut, try out this season’s hottest trend – the French fringe i.e. long bangs. The best way to master this look is to do it at home! Just remember your fringe should fall somewhere around your eyebrows and cheekbones and must be a choppy cut. Keep your bangs from going limp with our favorite dry shampoo Batiste (8).
Alexa Chung has perfected the French fringe.
If you already have shorter hair or are currently happy with your length shake things up with color. Lighten up your locks with blonde, honey or caramel tones. Highlights around your face are a great way to brighten up your look this spring. But going lighter isn’t the only way to freshen things up! Go bold and try going darker this season – deep chocolate is very popular, on and off the runway. Before taking the plunge, treat your hair to a detox with a clarifying shampoo like R+Co Oblivion Clarifying Shampoo (9).
