How long have you been a makeup artist and how did you get your start in the industry?
I have been a makeup artist for over 18 years! I trained in London at the Greasepaint School under BBC artists. My school is now a part of Pinewood Studios. I worked as a pro artist, and in training and education, for several brands in the UK, so I am well versed in both cosmetics and skincare. When I finished my MBA I returned to the US where I specialise in makeup for film, television, and celebrity personal appearances.
What is an easy/quick way to turn a day look into something that works for a night out?
Eyeliner and lipcolor can transform a whole look in seconds. I always carry a MAC Teddy and Smoulder pencil and 4 or 5 different lipsticks and glosses with me so I can make a quick change! (You don’t have to carry that much, I always pack heavy!)
What are your favorite Summer 2017 beauty trends?
I’m loving the strong, yet natural brows – it makes the face look so youthful. I am also loving these incredible beauty disrupters: Glossier and Beauty Pie – they are taking the trends and making them affordable and accessible!! Cream cheek colours for the win!
How often should you buy new makeup?
All makeup has an expiration date so get rid of your stuff regularly! If you are looking for exciting new products – check seasonally. If you have questions – you can always book me to have a makeup lesson and beauty clear out/shopping sesh!
What are your must haves beauty products?
1: Excellent skincare is so important. I use a selection of Clinique, DCL, IT cosmetics, and SuperGoop. I absolutely LOVE the peel pads from Dr. Gross Skincare – everyone should use these!
2: Tinted moisturiser and a great foundation so you have choices based upon your Skincare needs.
3: Cream and mousse cheek colors (try Glossier’s new ones – they are amazing!!)
4: Mascara – I’m using Dior’s new Pump and Volume and it’s very good – I have about three different mascaras in rotation and I always carry Great Lash by Maybelline and L’Oreal Voluminous for my clients as they are classics!
5: Settings sprays – I am loving Supergoop’s setting spray with SPF 50 but one of my super fave’s is Dr. Dennis Gross’ setting spray with Vitamin C – it’s amazing!!
Any advice on how to make your face glow?
I love a good luminizer – Beauty Pie makes a great one – but I also love the multiple sticks from NARS. If you want a beautiful all over glow use MAC’s brand new Next to Nothing foundation – it is beautiful and makes your skin glow!
What is your favorite part about being a Veluxe makeup artist?
I love the clients and I love the team. Every single person I have met on the team side is best in class – I usually work with Maurcell on hair and we are a dream team!! Our clients are the absolute cream of the crop – it is such a privilege to work with such incredible people!
How do you prepare different skin types before applying makeup?
I always start with top of the line Skincare. I am a voting member of CEW (cosmetic executive women) so I get to test every new product that comes out – I always carry the best Skincare in my kit! I love to use a priming spray after I select the ideal moisturiser and eye treatment so it keeps the skin hydrated and ready for cosmetics. Every face is different, so when I roll up with my big cases, don’t be afraid – I’m just prepared like a makeup Girl Scout!
What’s your favorite nude lip product?
My favourite nude is MAC subculture lip pencil with MAC Myth or Tom Ford Nude Vanille lipstick. I absolutely love the Naked Glosses by Urban Decay so I would throw one of those on as well over just the lip pencil – it’s a great, light summer look that’s easy to maintain!
